In particular, phishing scams impersonating Amazon and PayPay are particularly prominent. According to a report by the Council of Anti-Phishing Japan, approximately 22.3% of all phishing reports in January were for Amazon, and approximately 13.9% were for PayPay.
These scams send recipients emails or SMS with urgent messages such as "Unusual account activity detected" or "Payment information needs to be updated," and then direct them to a fake website where they are asked to enter their login or credit card information.
In particular, be aware that fake websites are used that are so elaborate that they are indistinguishable from official websites.
In addition, phishing attempts have also been reported that impersonate Sumitomo Mitsui Card, Ekinet, Sagawa Express, and JA Bank, which together account for about 53.4% of all phishing attempts.
