This article details phishing scams in Japan in 2025 that have been occurring in Japan, posing as financial institutions and credit card companies. Scam e-mails purporting to be from Resona Bank, Mitsubishi UFJ Bank, Sumitomo Mitsui Card, etc. are on the rise.

Phishing Scams Posing as Financial Institutions and Credit Card Companies

An increasing number of phishers are posing as financial institutions such as Resona Bank, Mitsubishi UFJ Bank, and Sumitomo Mitsui Card, sending urgent messages such as "Your account has been accessed in a suspicious manner" or "Your bank account is temporarily frozen," and directing you to a fake login page to steal your personal information.

These fraudulent e-mails are characterized by their design and logos that closely resemble official websites, and are clever enough to fool recipients into believing that they are legitimate communications. In many cases, the recipients are led to a fake login page when they click on a link in the e-mail and asked to enter personal information such as IDs, passwords, and PINs.

For example, Nishi-Nippon City Bank and Shimane Bank have issued a warning about phishing scams on their official websites.
