NTT Docomo: Japan DDoS Cases 2025

In the early hours of January 2, 2025, NTT Docomo was targeted by an external DDoS (Distributed Denial-of-Service) attack, affecting multiple online services. Goo services, OCN Web Mail, and dmenu News experienced severe access difficulties due to network congestion caused by the attack.

Restoration efforts were initiated on the same day; however, some disruptions persisted in certain services. NTT Docomo has announced that it is strengthening preventive measures to mitigate future attacks and is committed to restoring user trust.

Incident

At approximately 5:27 AM on January 2, 2025, NTT Docomo was hit by an external DDoS (Distributed Denial-of-Service) attack, causing disruptions to multiple services.

Major Affected Services:

  • Goo services: Difficulties accessing the homepage, leading to usability issues across all services.
  • OCN homepage: Access issues, along with disruptions to OCN Web Mail.
  • dmenu News: Users experienced difficulties accessing content.
  • Lemino search function: Became non-functional.
  • d Payment Shopping search function: Became difficult to use.
  • GOLF me: Service became inaccessible.

NTT Docomo identified network congestion caused by the DDoS attack as the root cause and announced that countermeasures were being implemented.

Restoration efforts began on the same day, and most issues were resolved. However, some delays in website information updates persisted.

Additionally, between 10:50 AM and 11:08 AM, a temporary disruption in d Payment services occurred. However, this was not caused by the DDoS attack on Docomo's infrastructure.

NTT Docomo has stated that it is accelerating efforts to prevent future attacks and is committed to restoring user trust.
